Wealdstone 0 Southend United 0 - Grosvenor Vale, National League

Ground just outside Ashford, close to the south of Heathrow Airport, couple of seated stands, one covered terrace and a bit of home made cover behind the goal, clubhouse outside with plenty of parking.

Game was 1st to 3rd, Southall started on top but after 19 minutes went behind and then it was the visitors who got on top and added a second to lead by two at half time. Second half saw Southall have most of the ball with St Paneleimon happy to sit back and hope to hit the hosts on the break. Southall got a goal back in the 66th minute with a fantastic long range shot from their skipper but within 5 minutes they found themselves conceding. Southall kept the pressure on and got a late consolation in injury time.

Great entertainment with some good skill on display and game was helped by a good set of officials. Nice club, who are hoping to move back to Southall. It was then a short drive north to Wealdstone.

0-0 but plenty of action, Southend hit the bar twice in the first half and were on top but Wealdstone will think Southend were lucky that their keeper did not see red for a foul just outside his box.

Second half was a tighter affair with Southend coming closer to breaking the deadlock. Phil Brown was the butt of the wags in the crowd but took the abuse/heckling well.

Liked the ground, and the club handled the large crowd well.

Sun has got its hat on

Tuesday 24 January 2017, Colchester United U23 2 Southend United U23 1 - Central League Cup, Florence Park

A trip to Florence Park to not only visit the Colchester United Academy set up but also see the Essex Under 23 derby match - not a bad game and at least the frost had gone - in fact it turned out to be sunny day.

It may have been a derby match but the game was played in good spirit, thanks for that must go to a good set of match officials. Colchester looked more like a passing team and it was not till the game became scrappy in the second half did Southend get back in the game.

Colchester will be glad to get a win as they had lost their first 3 games in this competition, but to be honest this may have been one competition too many entered by the north Essex side.

Oh and I met non-league guru and super groundhopper, Peter Miles!

Bilel Mohsni - changed man?

Friday 7th September 2012, Ipswich Town Reserves 6 Cardiff City 0, Playford Road Training Ground.

Bilel Mohsni the Southend Player was playing for the Town - and looked good and scored but can this be the same player who wanted to fight every Ipswich player in the Pre-Season friendly at Roots Hall last year?

Old style ground, old style bad habits.

A short drive to the Essex coast for a visit to Roots hall as Southend took on Ipswich Town.




A drive along the seafront showed that some money had been spent on how the resort looked, but it was quiet obvious that nothing had been spent on the ground, or the area around Roots Hall. Even the pubs looked run down and would probably felt more at home in some East London backstreet.




The game, started well, a great goal from Lee Martin, but then Chopra went off injured, Martin went back to spending most of his time hiding from the ball and then the defence showed that they could be done under the trade descriptions act! Please tell me how Tommy Smith found himself playing in the World Cup Finals in 2010?



The Southend 'Shed'/Tardis

Best bit of the day? The un-friendly nature of some of the midfield tussles and the Southend Groundsman's 'Shed', counting the amount of the people who entered the 'shed' it may have been a tardis!!

Another double game week and still passing well!

Wednesday 23rd February 2-11 - Ipswich Town reserves 4 Southend United Reserves 0, Playford Rd training ground, Combination

We lost at rangers, against a team that was top - but a neutral would have thought at half time that we were the table topping team. But for all our good play and the strings of passes we put together, we are lacking a goal threat up front, a similar story to the home game against Hull.




The Reserve game did see goals and again more passing and the best bit? Both the First team and the reserves are playing with a smile on their faces.
