Good excuse to visit a great ground

Tuesday 30 November 2021, Luton Town Under 23s 1 UK Armed Forces FC 1 - Friendly, Top Field, Hitchin Town

As a veteran, could not miss the opportunity to see the Armed Forces play Luton, and in the end they were unlucky not to win, a good game however the highlight of the day was visiting this great old ground for a second time.

After the storm - a win

Sunday 28 November 2021, Ipswich Town 2 Crewe Alexandra 1 - League One, Portman Road

Storm Arwen has gone, no one seemed to know why we were playing on a Sunday, however we got a win, but other than a wonder goal from Celina, we still failed to impress.

Storm Arwen

Saturday 27 November 2021, Hatfield Peverel 4 Sudbury Sports 3 - Essex and Suffolk Border League, Premier Division, Keith Bigden Memorial Ground

Wet, windy and not very comfortable, but still a decent game and a cracking goal from distance. Imagine a nice place to watch a game.... on a sunny day.

Penalties at the Oak tree end

Wednesday 24 November 2021, Harpenden Town 0 Stevenage 0 ( 4-2 on penalties) - Hertfordshire Senior Cup, 2nd Round, Rothamsted Park

A ground in the middle of a town centre, but with a rural feel - surrounded by trees with a large (Oak?) tree almost over hanging the pitch. Small club house, very friendly welcome. A burrito van rather than the usual burger offering then add the magic of the cup - a crowd of 300 to see the non league team triumph over the league side ( well their development team) via a penalty shoot out.

Not  a bad way to spend a Wednesday night.

Tuesday 23 November 2021

Needed a win - but not to be!

Tuesday 23 November 2021, Ipswich Town Rotherham United - League One, Portman Road

Rotherham were organised, not flashy and in the end 0 they won quite easy!

Saturday 20 November 2021

Cuckoo in the Nest

Saturday 20 November 2021, Norwich CBS 0 Lakenheath 3 - FA Vase, 2nd Round, The Nest

Norwich are playing on the other side of the city for a few months, and they have chosen well for a temporary home - nice café, good car parking, modern G4 pitch and a few odd seats - just ignore the Norwich City link and it is OK.

Game wise, they were never in it- with the visitors blowing them away in the first half, very impressed with Lakenheath.

Saturday 13 November 2021

Boring Oxford - or just cheats?

Saturday 13 November 2021, Ipswich Town 0 Oxford United 0 - League One, Portman Road

The visitors started well and were on top in first 10 minutes and the rest of the first half saw good football by both teams, however the second half was a different story!

Ipswich on top and Oxford using every excuse in the book to time waste/cheat - but in the end they got what they wanted - a point!

Friday 12 November 2021

Future stars?

Thursday 11 November 2021, Haverhill Rovers Under 18s 0  Ipswich Town under 16s 5 - Suffolk FA Under 18 Midweek Cup, New Croft

A  good win for the young Town players, much younger than their opponents but at times a class apart and obviously had gears to go up if needed, test is how many will go on and make a living in the game.

Wednesday 10 November 2021

A win - by penalty kicks and a chance to farewell to Chambers

Tuesday 9 November 2021, Ipswich Town 0 Colchester United 0 ( 4-3 on penalty kicks) - Portman Road, Papa John's Trophy, Southern Group A

A win, and a chance to say a proper farewell to our 'old'; skipper- Luke Chambers and also to look at the new art work at the back of the Sir Bobby Robson/North Stand. Not sure Bobby would have been that impressed with the game.

Saturday 6 November 2021

Still no home FA Cup win!

Saturday 6 November 2021, Ipswich Town 1 Oldham Athletic 1 - FA Cup 1st Round, Portman Road.

Early goal fast start- looked so promising, then soft equaliser and in the end lucky to get a replay when Oldham miss a penalty! Maybe we will win the replay and win at home in the second round!!!

Tuesday 2 November 2021

Thinking of Kieron

Monday 1 November 2021, Ipswich Town under 23s Colchester United Under 23s - Professional Development League Two, Portman Road

With the news that Kieron Dyer may require a liver transplant it was good to see his team win, with Kieron able to watch from the Director's Box.

He would have been pleased with the first half but maybe less so with the second which became scrappy.
