West London Bank Holiday

Monday 30 August 2021 - Southall 2 St Panteleimon 3 - Robert Parker Stadium, Combined Counties, Premier Division, North >

Wealdstone 0 Southend United 0 - Grosvenor Vale, National League

Ground just outside Ashford, close to the south of Heathrow Airport, couple of seated stands, one covered terrace and a bit of home made cover behind the goal, clubhouse outside with plenty of parking.

Game was 1st to 3rd, Southall started on top but after 19 minutes went behind and then it was the visitors who got on top and added a second to lead by two at half time. Second half saw Southall have most of the ball with St Paneleimon happy to sit back and hope to hit the hosts on the break. Southall got a goal back in the 66th minute with a fantastic long range shot from their skipper but within 5 minutes they found themselves conceding. Southall kept the pressure on and got a late consolation in injury time.

Great entertainment with some good skill on display and game was helped by a good set of officials. Nice club, who are hoping to move back to Southall. It was then a short drive north to Wealdstone.

0-0 but plenty of action, Southend hit the bar twice in the first half and were on top but Wealdstone will think Southend were lucky that their keeper did not see red for a foul just outside his box.

Second half was a tighter affair with Southend coming closer to breaking the deadlock. Phil Brown was the butt of the wags in the crowd but took the abuse/heckling well.

Liked the ground, and the club handled the large crowd well.

No wins in August?

Saturday 28 August 2021, Ipswich Town 2 AFC Wimbledon 2 - League One, Portman Road

Honeymoon definately over!

Thursday 26 August 2021

Keep away from the drummer!

Wednesday 25 August 2021, Woodford Town 2 Saffron Walden Town 2 - Essex Senior League, Ashton Playing Fields

Woodford are back home - new ground, no fan like an athletics track round the pitch but you need to make the best of what you have and Woodford have done that - good clubhouse, plenty of helpful stewards and even a drummer!

Football wise, it was bottom v top but there was enough on show to make you think Woodford will get a winning run soon. Best bit? Size of the crowd and many of them locals, over 300 again at Ashton.

Saturday 21 August 2021

Still no win!

Saturday 21 August 2021, Ipswich Town 2 MK Dons 2 - League One, Portman Road

How many more games before we actually get a win?

Thursday 19 August 2021

Honeymoon over?

Tuesday 17 August 2021, Cheltenham Town 2 Ipswich Town 1 - Whaddon Road, League One

Loved the ground - and the first half was OK, but it soon fell apart- jury still out on all the changes at the club- but Paul and the team are now desperate for any sort of win.

Monday 16 August 2021

Penalty practice needed

Monday 16 August 2021, Ipswich Town Under 23 1 Coventry City Under 23s 2 - Portman Road, Professional Development League

First team missed a penalty on Saturday and the Under 23 team could not hit the target today - let's just hope we do not get into a penalty shoot out, if we ever get to 90 minutes in a cup game and have not lost already!

Saturday 14 August 2021

New boys looking sharp

Saturday 14 August 2021, Buckhurst Hill 5 Wivenhoe Town 1 - Eastern Counties, Div 1 South, Roding Lane

Short drive down the A12 to complete the division, found a work in progress off the pitch, but on the pitch, the hosts look like a team who will ne near the top of the division most of the season.

Tuesday 10 August 2021

Still a work in progress?

Tuesday 10 August 2021, Ipswich Town 0 Newport County 1 - League Cup, Round 1 - Portman Road

Dobra was brilliant, 25 chances but in the end a Newport goal after 4 minutes was enough to see the Welsh team leave with a win.

Saturday 7 August 2021

New era - but no winning start

Saturday 7 August 2021, Ipswich Town Under 23s 2 AFC Sudbury 0 - PSF, Training Ground followed by; Ipswich Town 2 Morecambe 2 - League 1, Portman Road

Plenty to enjoy but still some trouble defending - but great to be back in a 20,000 plus crowd and everyone smiling - we all love a last minute goal.

Thursday 5 August 2021

Not back on track

Wednesday 4 August 2021, Chelmsford City 3 Ipswich Town Under 23s 1 - PSF, Melbourne Athletics Stadium

A number of the 'bombed out' squad playing and Downes certainly looked like he has left the club in his mind, even if his body was at the game - all very disappointing and not helpful to the young players around them.

Wednesday 4 August 2021

Old boys up for the game

Tuesday 3 August 2021,  Felixstowe and Walton United 3 Ipswich Town Under 18s 1 - PSF, Dellwood Avenue

A good first half for Ipswich, an early lead and hen missed a penalty but after the break it was all Felixstowe - with 4 ex Ipswich players in the Seasiders team, they certainly wanted to win this game.
