West Ham meets rural Essex

Saturday 24 April 2021, Lawford Lads 3 Sudbury Sports 2 - School Lane, ESBL, Knock out Cup, 3rd Round

Maybe 69 miles from the old West Ham ground, but the village of Lawford, in rural essex, close to the Suffolk border has a link to West Ham. John Lyall the former West Ham manger lived close by when he managed Ipswich and when the pavilion was built it was named after the great man. In 2001 it was opened by another former Hammer in Trevor Brooking.
Today was cup game and Sudbury started favourites, a team linked to AFC Sudbury full of good young players. they soon took the lead but were a bit more fortunate with their second, and went in at the break, two nil up.
The second half, a breeze picked up and the home team went direct, and got one goal back then levelled from the penalty spot, with just 4 minutes left, Lawford bought a sub on who managed to get the winner with his first touch.

The 'moaners' win.

Cherry Hinton 4 Cambridge University Press 2

Kershaw 30 years Senior Cup

Cherry Hinton Recreation Ground

Outskirts of Cambridge, just off the A14 - Pavilion by the road, pitch about 150 metres away, on far side of Recreation ground- pitch fully roped off and in very good condition. Pop up seats for the subs bench.

Within two minutes the visitors had gone one up and i though this may be a one sided game but after about 10 minutes, the home side got on top and went level on 18 minutes. The visitors had a player put in the sin bin but no further goals in the first half.

Cherry Hinton went further ahead and were cruising but then had a player sent off, for dissent and no surprise, the home side were the better team, but did have a number of constant 'moaners' in their side.

CUP got a goal back but Cherry Hinton still the stronger side and added a 4th goal, late on. THe Cherry Hinton manager then got booked and was lucky not to see red for also dissent and also kicking the ball away when it went out for a thrown in.
