Sea Mist

Wednesday 6 September 2023, Wells Town 2 Fakenham Town Reserves 4 - Mummery Cup, 1st Round, Beach Road

Hottest day of the year, but then I arrive an hour before kick off to find the pitch slowly being covered in a sea mist! However players warming up, went and got some chips from the Beach front (mistake- poor quality) and when I returned to the pitch, the must was even thicker, however the Ref was happy to play.

Over 150 watching, local derby with most players and spectators from both teams knowing each other- Fakenham went 4 up, but then saw a red mist- to go with the sea version, 2 red cards, 2 goals back from, wells - so an eventful evening of football- well the bits, you could see.

North Norfolk Derby

Saturday 28 December 2019, Sheringham 1 Fakenham Town 0 - Eastern Counties League, Division One, North, Weybourne Road

There were three of us at the game, all from Suffolk and this was deepest, darkest Norfolk but we had to admit, we were made welcome, the locals were friendly and we only saw one kid in a Norwich shirt.

Then there was the football, a local derby, hard tackles, a few fouls but players respected each other, no quarter given, none asked for.

Skill wise, the teams attempted to play good football but al most impossible on a heavy pitch, but one bit of class by the home team centre forward gave us the only goal of the game.

The ground needs some kre work on it, some seats and get at least one  more side of the ground open however a cracking clubhouse shared with the cricket club and on top of that a club that wants to see it's own North Norfolk born players make it to the 1st team. All in all a good day out, even if it was in Norfolk!

Best ballboy in football

Monday 7 May 2018, Ipswich Wanderers 0 Fakenham Town 1 - Eastern Counties, Premier Division, Humber Doucy Lane

Wanderers have had a wretched season and Fakenham have not fared much better, so not sure what I was expecting when 2 of the bottom 3 teams met.

The game was close and Fakenham won it with a late goal just after wanderers had one disallowed at the other end.

plenty of way ward shooting, kept the oldest (and best) ball boy in the UK busy. Lets us just hope both teams are around next season, especially Wanderers, one of my closest non-league clubs, and love the quirky stands, the mass of corrugated iron - and always someone to chat with about football. A real friendly club who today gave everyone who paid to get in a free beer!

No programme???

Saturday 27 December 2014, Fakenham Town 0 Norwich United 3, Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Clipbush Park

No programmes, but a great little ground and a fantastic game, with the home team 'Ghosts' unlucky to lose by such a heavy score.
