Phoenix club formed by supporters of east Thurrock, could not get in their chosen league so were welcomed into the Border League, even if the club is far from the usual league footprint.
A good set of volunteers and the set up is very good for this level, large club house, with outside terrace, that gives a raised view of the game. Pitch railed off with temporary fencing, two wooden dug outs and behind that a large grass bank that gives another elevated view of the game. Pitch in very good condition, further pitches beyond the far goal.
Football wise, the home side almost took an early lead but they would regret quickly missing their chance as Sudbury (the Youth/Academy team of AFC Sudbury) put their first 3 chances way - on 7, 17 and 30 minutes, Thurrock pulled one back in the 33rd minute.
Slightly better display from the home club in the second half, but Sudbury added a 4th on 58 minutes, Thurrock pulled a second goal back in the 83rd minute and looked for a late rally, however it was Sudbury who got a further goal in injury time.
In summary, a very good set up for Step 7, a keen bunch of volunteers but what is missing is a good team, be interesting to see if they keep pulling big crowds if the performances on the pitch do not improve.
A number of (senior!!) hoppers were present.
