Kevin Beattie RIP - The Greatest Ipswich Player Ever

Tuesday 18 September 2018, Ipswich Town 1 Brentford 1 - Championship, Portman Road

Not sure Kevin would have been impressed by the first half ( and poor team set up by manager) but he would have been lifted as the rest of us by the second half display.

Too much bounce

Saturday 15 September 2018, K Sports 1 Deal Town 4 - FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round, Cobdown

I am not against G3/G4 pitches and new grounds - I get it - more teams can play, more youth football and at K Sports you have a great sports complex, modern clubhouse, numerous football pitches plus other sports like hockey.

OK the ground has not got much character, the clubhouse is a 100M walk from the pitch, I can get over that but today what I noticed is that at this level the players could not deal with the bounce, this made the game a bit of a lottery, however it did mean the away team who had a little more nous, did end up as winners.

G4 Pitches are needed but with a large sports complex like K Sports, I do wish they could have a grass pitch for the 1st Team.

Just love the FA Cup

Wednesday 5 September 2018, Rusthall 2 Cray Wanderers 2 (Cray win 4-3 on penalties) - FA Cup, Preliminary Round, replay, Jockey Farm

OK, I loved the ground even if not keen on the last few miles of the drive along country roads. I could go on about the stands, the clubhouse the raised pitch, rural feel but even if it was a quirky ground it was the game itself that was the winner tonight.

Cray are from a higher division and dominated the first half but only got one goal and in the second half were made to pay for their misses when Rusthall equalised.

So the game went to extra time and two more goals before Cray won on penalties. The home fans were disappointed to lose but you could see and hear how proud they were of their team - you just have to love the FA Cup.

Still waiting

Better display but the wait for a Derby win goes on

Imagine how good they would be on short grass!

Saturday 1 September 2018, May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club 8 Burnham Ramblers 0 - FA Vase 1st Qualifying round, Barking Rugby Club

Sharing with a Rugby club as some advantages- great bar, food OK and they even had a balcony to watch the game from - but there is a downside- and at Barking the grass is far too long. Not that it stopped May & Baker playing football, as the score line shows but I reckon they would even be better if they could actually see their own boots!

Get the grass cut!!
