Saturday 25 January 2014, Ipswich Town 2 Reading 0, Championship - Portman Road
Much better display, and a good result in an entertaining game - Hyam was certainly missed but the home fans went home happy, if slightly wet after a torrential downpour.
Welcome to my blog that concentrates on my love of sports grounds, from the new stadia like the Millennium to the quant non league grounds of rural Engalnd. Thank you Arcibald Leitch!

Nice pitch, good ground and great football - but no home fans?
Tuesday 21 January 2014, Burnham Ramblers 1 AFC Sudbury 4, Ryamn League North - Leslie Field
Burnham are a club going in the right direction, nice ground, quality pitch, good youth set-up and play football the right way. Promotion last year has seen them rise to the Isthmian league and they have plans to move to an even better ground but one big problem, in a part of Essex with plenty of other clubs they are not getting the support from the local population and as with so many local rivals they have plenty of local games – luckily for them as with this Sudbury game if it had not been for the away fans then it would have been a very low gate. Burnham deserves much better support from the locals.

Might be a basic ground - but dry and out of the wind!
Saturday 18 January 2014 - Gorleston 1 Haverhill Rovers 0, Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - Emerald Park
Some may say that Emerald Park is basic, 3 of the stands almost identical and few portakabins on the other side – but what do you want at a non-league ground? For me it is to be dry and out of the wind and keeping your shoes clean is a bonus- so Gorleston ticks all those boxes. Plus you do not need to look far to see some quirky bits that all non-league followers seem to like.
On one side you have the greatest Directors Box you could ask for.
And then on the other side, you have the subs sat within the Sailor Brown stand – another nice touch.
The game itself, not great thanks to a muddy pitch, but as so many clubs have been even able to put a match on over the last few weeks because of rain you can only play tribute to those behind the scenes who have made it even possible to just play a game at Emerald Park.

Pity we had to have half time
Saturday 11 January 2014, Ipswich Town 1 QPR 3, Championship - Portman Road
For forty five minutes, we looked the better team but could not get the goal we deserved, and when it came to it, QPR had the class to take their chances.

Wind and rain ... and a little pain!
Wednesday 1 January 2014, Ipswich Town 1 Charlton Athletic 1, Portman Road - Championship
I guess we shopuld be glad they even played and still undefeated in 8, but it was not a great display by the Town.
