Kiwis top Group C

Friday 28 October 2022, New Zealand 48 Ireland 10 - Rugby League World Cup, Group C Game, Headingley

Good crowd, great atmosphere and Ireland were actually leading for a few minutes!! Crowd enjoyed the two Irish try's at the same time impressed with the skills of the Kiwi team, the NZ team may be concerned that they missed a number of conversion chances.

NZ were always going to win but were helped by a ref who seemed to give any 50/50 decision the New Zealand way and they possibly should have finished with 12 players with the Kiwi, Waerea-Hargreaves escaping with 10 minutes in the sin-bin when many thought it was red card offence.

Long Melford to Lima

Wednesday 11 October 2017, Long Melford 0 Ipswich Town XI 2 - Suffolk Premier Cup, 1st Round, Stoneylands

In a small village, along a narrow street but then you find the ground- dark, wet - not sure of the welcome - but it starts with a decent car park, a free programme with admission then you enter the clubhouse.

Fantastic - two display boards, cabinets and large photographs - all marking 150 years of football in the village- and in particular celebrating their 1950's Senior cup win at Portman Road.

The effort taken to remember their club history, would put many a professional club to shame.

On the pitch, the first half was very even and then the village teams got on top in the second half. But against the run of play, Ipswich produced the best move of the game and went ahead with a tap in.

The (young) professionals then dominated, and Monty Patterson, our New Zealand international added the second from the penalty spot. So this week, Monty plays in front of 200 in a County cup game and his next competitive game may be a World Cup play-off match in front of a packed stadium in Lima, Peru.

He may notice a few differences!
