First time winners

Thursday 8 May 2025, Hadley 4 Welwyn Garden City 2 - Herts FA Charity Cup, Final, Herts FA County Ground

Always find it strange that some County FAs have their own ground, especially when no club side seem to use it as a ground- maybe even stranger when Letchworth Eagles play at a ground not as good less than 200 meters away!

Ground has all you need, a very good main stand, plenty of covered standing and a cafe that sold hot drinks, food and booze and had no trouble coping with the 200 plus in attendance- and some of the Hadley fans seemed to be on a mission to make sure every can of beer was sold!

Hadley started off in a hurry and within 2 minutes were one up and dominating but Welwyn had a purple patch half way through that half and found themselves 2-1 up - but then disaster- straight Red card and down to 10 men.

Second half was all Hadley, took a while to get back on terms but in the end won quite easy with a cracking goal from distance by one of their centre backs, being the goal of the day.

115th time this cup has been held and neither Hadley or Welwyn had won it before.

Where Jack came from

 Saturday 17 July 2021, Letchworth GC Eagles 5 - Broxbourne Badgers1 - PSF, Pixmore

Always nice to 'tick' off a new ground - some hoppers do not count pre-season friendlies but for me they count, rather a competitive game but in the end far too many grounds and far too few games.

The Eagles are part of a larger sports complex, the town sports centre and the Town Rugby Club next door and not far from the County FA Ground. The home club started as just a Youth team, with Jack Wilshere spending some of his youth at the club.

The ground is small, basic but very well looked after, smart clubhouse, fully railed and a small seated stand, a further pitch is on the far side and a nice touch were the shared dugouts.

Football wise, the Eagles are about to start their first season at Step 6 and look like a good footballing side, the Badgers were from the County league and even though they lost, gave a good performance and should do well in their league.
