One out of three, will do!

Friday 30 September 2022, Ipswich Town Under 21s 1 Watford Under 21s 0 - Professional Development League, Playford Road Training Ground

Ipswich awarded 3 penalties, manage to convert one - in the last minutes of the game!

Winter starts with an away cup win

Wednesday 28 September 2022, Penn and Tylers Green 2 Shrivenham 3 - Berks and Bucks FA Senior Cup, 2nd Qualifying Round, French School Meadow

Basic but smart ground, warm clubhouse, good crowd but home team look far from a winning side.

All over in 5!

Saturday 24 September 2022, Rugby Town 2 Coventry United 0, Butlin Road, UCL, Premier South

A stadium that could easily hold conference games (may have to work on their bar service!!) Two quick goals, the promise of more but game fizzled out to end as an easy win for Rugby.

Nice touch to see the Rugby manager wearing Ipswich Town tracksuit bottoms!

Can imagine it would be a cold place to watch a game in winter, as seem quite exposed. A good game and nice to see a club with such a history in the game doing well.

Strong team, but still found it hard work

Tuesday 20 September 2022, Ipswich Town 2  Arsenal Under 21s 0 - Papa Johns Trophy, Portman Road

Good to see Town taking the cup seriously, however we still seemed to make hard work of beating a team mainly comprising teenagers. Certain fringe players, did not make the most of their opportunity of starting the game.

Not what was expected

Friday 16 September 2022, Colchester United Under 21s 2 Ipswich Town Under 21s 1 - Professional Development League, Florence Park

Not used to it this season, Ipswich team playing badly!!

For the Queen and Marcus

Tuesday 13 September 2022, Ipswich Town 2 Bristol Rovers 0 - League One, Portman Road

A match where we were able to remember HM The Queen and also send our best wishes to Ipswich and Rovers legend, Marcus Stewart.

Back from enforced break

Monday 12 September 2022, Ipswich Town Under 21s 2 Swansea City Under 21s 1 - Bent Lane, Professional Development League

After an enforced break from football after the FA cancelled all games, today football was allowed again and the Under 21 team got back to winning ways, cheered on by a large contingent of Norwegians, who were here to support Ipswich on Saturday and Tuesday, so hopefully the win today made up slightly for missing the game Saturday.

A change of plan

Saturday 10 September 2022, Bury St Edmunds RFC 36 North Walsham RFC 27 - National 2 East Rugby Union, Haberden

With the sad death of HM The Queen, sport was left to decide if they wished to play or postpone fixtures.

Football throughout the UK decided to postpone, however Rugby Union and cricket plays on - many will debate who was right or wrong or as i exp3ct many of us will agree, there was no right or wrong answer.

The break from football opened an opportunity to visit the most senior Rugby Union team in the county for a local derby game.

In the end a crowd of over 400 was at Bury, helped as a local derby - the home team ended up as winners, helped by North Walsham not making most of their own line outs.

A work in progress, on and off the field

Wednesday 7 September 2022, Melton Town 2 Kirby Muxloe 2 ( Kirby won 4-5 on penalties) - UCL League Cup, Preliminary Round, Melton Sports Village

Couple of heavy showers on route and A1 closed on way back, but trip still worthwhile as a cracking game that the lower division team deserved to win.

Melton took a very early lead and for a few minutes this looked like it would be a stroll in the park for the home team and they would score quite a few, but within a couple minutes Kirby were back on terms. The remainder of the half saw numerous chances for both sides.

50 minutes gone and the visitors took a deserved lead, Melton then made a number of subs as regular 1st team players like Paul Anderson entered the fray. On the 64th minute, Melton made it 2-2 with the best goal of the game, a long distance cracker from Gilchrist.

Melton then had most of the ball for the last half an hour, however Kirby defended well and took the toe to penalties, just one kick missed and it was Kirby who made the next round.

The ground is a work in progress, the club house still being built, however hot and cold drinks plus rolls were still on sale, 2 small stands, one with seats. Once the clubhouse if=s finished, this will be a cracking ground.

Home team fought well

Saturday 3 September 2022, Ipswich Wanderers 1 Hornchurch 3 - Humber Doucy Lane, FA Cup First Qualifying Round

Wanderers were short of players, however they put in a great display against a team from two divisions higher, and great as an Ipswich Town fan to see Keiron Dyer's son play for Wanderers.

A class apart

Thursday 1 September 2022, Ipswich Wanderers Under 18 0 AFC Sudbury Under 18 7 - FA Youth Cup, Preliminary Round, Humber Doucy Lane

The two clubs first teams are only a division apart, but at youth level, the gulf in class is much wider. AFC Sudbury have dominated local youth football for a number of years and from their display tonight, it seems that domination will continue for a while.
