No need for bell ringing

Wednesday 23 February 2022, Farnborough 4 Portsmouth 0 - Hampshire Senior Cup, Cherrywood Road

Farnborough too strong, too good and too determined for a very young Pompey team.

The famous, tattooed Pompey fan made an appearance in the second half, after spending the first 45 minutes in the bar- he shared some words with the young Farnborough fans, all got a bit silly- but in the end the Pompey display did not merit him ringing his bell today!

Boring, boring Cheltenham

Tuesday 22 February 2022, Ipswich Town 0 Cheltenham Town 0 - League One, Portman Road

Dominated the first half, lost our way in the second and then the visitors spent the last 20 minutes time wasting, diving, laying on the floor- - simply cheating!

Jackson - Man of the Match

Saturday 19 February 2022, Ipswich Town 3 Burton Albion 0 - League One, Portman Road

Fantastic 'Man of the Match' display from Kayden Jackson

10 men hold on

Saturday 12 February 2022, Lingfield 1 Newhaven 2 - The Pavilion, Southern Combination, Premier Division

Was aiming for NW London but large hold up/accident at M25/A12 roundabout, meant I ended up going south of the Thames and ended up at Lingfield , arriving at 2.59 pm!!

Basic rural ground, modern pavilion (full bar and hot drinks - only food - hot dogs) and a very large seated stand positioned down towards far goal.

Not a dirty game but Ref found it hard to control with constant advice/abuse from both teams, home dug out and home supporters. Newhaven were far better team in first half and went in the break 2-0 up. the second from the penalty spot after the keeper had taken out the Newhaven player  who was clean through. Just a yellow as the penalty was main punishment.

Lingfield improved in the second half and they were helped when Newhaven player saw Red after taking down a home player when he was last man. Lingfield then pulled one back but could not get an equaliser. Plenty of added time after continuous time wasting/cramp/more arguments.

Newhaven deserved the win.

Hope you can count!

Wednesday 9 February 2022, Staines Town 2 Guernsey 8 - Isthmian League, Division One, Sourth Central. Wheatsheaf Park

Relegation 6 pointer, but not sure anyone was expecting a game like this - plenty of chances, woodwork struck and 10 goals. Staines may have lost, but their goal that came direct from a free kick, was probably the best of the night.

Staines are now heading towards relegation and that is sad for any club, but in particular Staines, as they are so well run, however the locals seems to have drifted away with Guernsey fans and groundhoppers making up a large percentage of the crowd.

The ground itself is well worth a visit, a combination pf both very new and more traditional.

Quickly forgotten

Saturday 5 February 2022, Ipswich Town 1 Gillingham  - League One, Portman Road

Poor game, windy, cold and easily forgotten.
