Easier away?

Tuesday 29 December 2015, Brighton and Hove Albion 0 Ipswich Town 1 - Championship, Amex Stadium

The day strayed well with a quick look at the Lewes ground and their Executive Beach huts! Will definitely be hoping to get back there for a game.

Then the quick train ride to Flamer for the game and Ipswich started on fire and it took the home team 15 minutes to get into the game. We may have been lucky to see a Brighton goal disallowed but we still deserved to go one up and could have scored more and once the Zamora shot came off the bar victory seemed certain.

So five away wins on the trot - can we play away every week?

Top defence

Monday 28 December 2015, Felixstowe and Walton United 2 Whitton United 0 - Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Dellwood Avenue

I expected goals and maybe quite a few but they were all expected to come from the Seasiders - Felixstowe were second whilst Whitton were bottom and leaking goals in every game whilst the Felixstowe defence is the 3rd best through out level 5 football (378 teams). But we only got two goals thanks to a sterling rearguard display by the Ipswich side, with their keeper in sparkling form.

At last we win at home - even if we leave it late!

Saturday 26 December 2015, Ipswich Town 2 QPR 1 -  Championship, Portman Road

At last we won a home game, but like the morning match in East Ipswich, not much football to write home about.

Boxing Day, great day for football but not great football for the day!

Saturday 26 December 2015, Ipswich Wanderers 1 Brantham Athletic 1 - Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Humber Doucy Lane

Decent crowd, not that cold, and the spectators could chat about Christmas as the football was nothing to write home about!

Tuesday, 22 December 2015

Win some, lose some.

Tuesday 22 December 2015, Stotfold v Eynesbury Rovers, Hinchingbrooke Cup Round 1 - Roker Park - Postponed, 10 minutes before kick off!

Game called off - heavy rain!

Saturday, 19 December 2015

If Derby are a top two team , we still should be in with a shout at the end of the season.

Saturday 19 December 2015, Ipswich Town 0 Derby County 1, Championship - Portman Road

They grow them big in Suffolk!

Saturday 19 December 2015, Ipswich Town Under 16s 4 QPR Under 16s 0, Playford Rd Training Ground

A good win for a young Town team that looked taller, bigger, fitter and with a good amount of skill also thrown in.

Walking home for Christmas

Tuesday 15 December 2015, Fulham 1 Ipswich Town 2, Championship - Craven Cottage

After that great win at Fulham, many would think my post would be about taking the lead within seconds of the start or the great away support but instead it is about what happened afterwards!

I decided to just get the train to Chelmsford (at midnight), then walk 64 miles home via the Essex Way, solo, in the dark and cross country!

I am glad I did as so far I have raised over £2000 for the Walking with the Wounded Charity as part of their #walkinghomeforchristmas campaign.

It was not easy, and after falling in a bog just 40 minutes after leaving Chelmsford, I was concerned that I may have chosen a challenge too hard, but I  knew the cause was one worth putting the effort in for so by early evening on Wednesday I was back home.

Thank you to all those who have supported me - still time to sponsor me here

Should they just share?

Saturday 12 December 2015, Bedford Town 3 Ware 2, - Southern League- Division One, Central, New Eyrie

Another lunchtime kick off enabled a few of us Ipswich fans to grab a second game on the way home, and this week it was Bedford Town. In fact on the way to MK Dons we had time to call in and check where the ground was, and we noticed there was slightly small ground next door to the Bedford Town New Eyrie ground. The other ground was McMullen Park home of Bedford FC. Luck was on my side, the gate was open and I was welcomed in by (I thought he was the groundsman) the Bedford chair, he was rightly proud of their new clubhouse and other improvements but did wonder why the old committee had decided to have their own ground rather than share with Bedford Town as had happened when both clubs had moved to the new Council owned out of town ground. He was hopeful for the future as relationships between the two clubs had improved and in fact that afternoon a former Bedford player was to make the bench for Bedford Town.

I was made so welcome I hope to get back and see a gmae played by the "noisy neighbours"

The afternoon saw us at the larger Bedford Club and a game v Ware, who we had see play the week earlier and what a game was saw! Not the greatest conditions but a 3-2 win with plenty of other goal mouth scrambles, shots, headers, full blooded tackles and some needless bookings.  Plenty of action to keep the crowd entertained,

But some top tips if you visit the New Eyrie;

1.Visit (and purchase something) from the great programme shop
2. Have a beer in the spacious social club
3. But tea. scones, food from the supporters club tea hut, cheaper than the club snack bar.

Oh and say hello to the Eagle

A win at MK Dons (time to drop the franchise comments?)

Saturday 12 December 2015, MK Dons 0 Ipswich Town 1 - Championship, Stadium MK

3 More good points, but we were holding on at the end. Good turnout of Town fans, but is it time we now dropped the 'Franchise' stuff- time to just say "we hope it does not happen again" and just let AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons get on with their own football lives?

Call for Reg

Monday 7 December 2015, Ipswich Town Reserves 0 Watford Reserves 2, U21 Professional Development League - Playford Rd Training Ground
