Not a bear to be seen but plenty of good football on display

Saturday 30 August 2014, Godmanchester Rovers 2 Newmarket Town 3, FA Cup, Preliminary Round - Bearscroft Lane

Sun came out, a good crowd for what is almost a local derby - the 'A14 aco'?

Wet, very wet!

Monday 25 August 2014, Ipswich Town Reserves 1 Swansea City Reserves 0, Ipswich Training Ground, U21 Development League South

Wet but a good game even with a very poor ref!

No bragging rights for us

Saturday 23 August 2014, Ipswich Town 0 Norwich City 1, Championship - Portman Road

Never great to lose a Derby match - but not sure why so many are surprised when we compare the squads - and spending power of Norwich.

No longer running

Tuesday 20 August 2014, Ipswich Wanderers 2 Hadleigh United 2, Eastern Counties Premier - SEH Sports Ground

Richard Logan was going to be the next great Town play at the start of the 21st century, he ended up not having a long stay at the club but was very successful at Exeter City but he is now back playing in Suffolk and at Hadleigh but it seems he is not as mobile as he used to be! Not the only ex town player at the game as it was good to see Titus Bramble supporting local non-league football.

Is Jack right for us?

Tuesday 19 August 2014, Lowestoft Town 1 Ipswich Town Reserves 3, Friendly - Crown Meadow

147 turned up and saw the first game in a town shirt of Jack Collison, who has been training with Ipswich after being let go by West Ham - is he worth a punt? On this display I would think he still has much to prove to Mick before he gets a deal. On the other hand, Teddy Bishop was yet again the pick of a very young team

Big birthday

Monday 18 August 2014, Day 2 - Suffolk CCC v Hertfordshire CCC, Unicorn Minor Counties Championship - Copdock & OI CC

It was a pleasure to be able to attend the 150th birthday of Suffolk CCC - and made better by Suffolk finishing the day on top.

As always it was great to hear yet one more humerous speech from Essex and Suffolk legend- Ray East!

Great start to the FA Cup

Saturday 16 August, Takeley 2 London Tigers 2, FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round - Station Road

With the season only a week old we are already into the first games of the FA Cup/ I started this years competition with a drive into Essex and a visit to Takeley (close to Stansted Airport). I found a great little ground which has been improved beyond recognition over the last two years.

Takeley just need to get it together on the pitch and they will soon be leaving the Essex Senior League maybe upwards to the Ryman League.

But in this cup they were lucky to get a replay as the London Tigers had played the better football but a last minute equaliser will see a replay needed next week to separate the teams.

What we did see on top of some classy football were 3 outstanding goals with the second goal for the Tigers being the pick of the bunch.

Almost forgot, a great cup of tea and a tasty burger but please turn the PA down!

More negatives than positives

Tuesday 12 August 2014, Crawley Town 1 Ipswich Town 0 (aet) Laegue Cup Round 1 - Broadfield Stadium

Another early cup exit and yet again the many fans who have attended feel let down.

Positives - not many!

Matt Clarke - great debut
Bishop and McQueen - good cameo displays as coming on late subs

That is about it!

Negatives:

Wordworth - very poor
Henshall - played for Man City?????
Nouble - - ball- barn door!
Marriot - did not get much support from midfield but maybe not as close to the 1st team as we thought
